Downtown Dog

We go to Chicago every year for a Cubs game.  Without fail we always have to go to Downtown Dogs.  It is my favorite hot dog place in Chicago.  If you've ever tried one let me know what you think!

Whole Fried Fish in Phuket, Thailand

One of the best meals we had in Thailand was at a small restaurant in Phuket called Weaves.  I had the whole fried fish.  The fish was tender and moist, with a delicious crunchy fried, well seasoned breading.  I am hungry now just thinking about it!

Lemon-Raspberry Cupcakes

This was my first attempt at making anything out of   Bon Apetite magazine.  They were really sweet, which I love, but some people thought they were too sweet.  The center of them has a dollop of raspberry jam.  So good!

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup (12 tablespoons) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, divided
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons finely grated lemon peel, divided
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk
  • 4 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, divided
  • 12 teaspoons plus 1 tablespoon seedless raspberry jam
  • Fresh raspberries (for garnish)

Fried Chicken at McDonalds?

Every time we go to a new country Greg has to find the McDonalds or Burger King and find out what different items they have.  We have been disappointed a few times, not sure if it was actually beef that was used, or took the more literal "ham" burger approach.  I was pleasantly surprised at the McDonalds in Bangkok....they served Fried Chicken!  Upon eating the chicken, I cant say it was the best I have ever had, but it certainly was not the worst.  It was dry, but hey, what do you expect from chicken being cooked in french fry grease!

Chips anyone?

We've been to many different countries and seen many different variates of potato chips, but this was a first. "Latino Color" chips.....now I don't know about you but when I see a chip named Latino Color, especially ones that show a tongue turning blue, I have to try it!

Street Meat In Bangkok

After watching an episode of Anthony Bourdain and his glowing review of street meat, we decided that we had to try it in when we went to Thailand. We waited until day 2 to seek out this mysterious meat. It didn't take us long to find, as they have it on every corner. I tried the pork (at least what they said was pork). Greg ordered chicken. I thought it was a chicken wing, Greg pointed out, after he finished the first (and only) one, that it was actually the chicken foot. Our advice....make sure you bring lots of imodium!
